Welcome to the
Pastor's Corner

It's
Called
Life...
I wanted to create a page with the main goal of helping you through "the grind" of everyday life. I want to help simplify your busy schedule on the spiritual side by giving you insight and direction. I want to do life with you virtually in this 21st Century way of living. On this page, you will find bible studies, links to other websites, events happening at CHBC, and many other resources. Above all, I want it to be personal. That is why I have placed the pictures I have on this page. I want to let you see into my life just a little. Let's do life together starting today.
God Bless - Pastor Bryan

Book Recommendations
Often I am asked, do you have a book for ? I want to give you insight that I hope will be informative as you grow in your walk with the Lord. Below I will provide you with the topic, the name of the book, and why it is a must-read.

Daily Devotional
Oswald Chambers, "My Utmost for His Highest"
In my opinion, the greatest daily devotional of all time. I read this daily as have for the last seventeen years. This book will challenge you to look deep into your life to strive to be a stronger Christian than yesterday.

Commentaries
-
New Testament
Jon MacArthur is widely known as the best when it comes to explaining the text. Even though I disagree with him on some theological issues, he is still the best.

-
History of the Bible
Ray Stedman in my opinion, is the best when it comes to the history of the text. He was known for preaching through the entire Bible. If you google "Ray Stedman," you can find his stuff online.

Just starting out...
J. Vernon Mcgee's "Thru the Bible" is a classic and was the first commentary I purchased. Simple yet informative.
Warren Wiersbe's "Be Series" is still something I use each week. Any young preacher or lay leader should have this in their library.

Best all-around commentary
The New American Commentary is another commentary I use weekly if not daily. It gives detailed information yet is easy to understand and grasp. It is more of a modern commentary but is very conservative.
Matthew Henry Commentary If you are looking for a lot of information that digs deep into the text, I turn to Matthew Henry. Many cross-references as well. Many people stray away from this commentary because of its attention to detail. If I "get stuck" on a passage, this is where I normally turn to for an explanation.

Lesser known commentary
Rod Mattoon. Mattoon's stuff is ideal for a minister just starting. Mattoon uses illustrations in his explanation of the text. His illustrations are outstanding and how he applies them to the text is amazing.
Leadership
-
Anything from John Maxwell is a must. Personally, the best book that I take all of my staff members through is John Maxwell's "Five Levels of Leadership." This book focuses on how important influencing people around you always results in either increasing your influence or decreasing your influence.
-
Gary Mcintosh's "One size doesn't fit all." Probably the most important book I have ever read explaining the structure of different size churches. This book will shed light on why certain things work or don't work in churches. It also explains the mindset of different size churches and why they think the way they do.

Mark Clifton's "Reclaiming Glory" Some would say this is not a leadership book. I put it in this category because it is all about how a pastor/ leader treats church revitalization. Clifton deals with the reality that if changes do not take place in churches, they will die. More importantly than talking about how declining churches could die, he focuses on the possibilities of a declining church reclaiming glory. This is not a step-by-step guide to bringing back a church in decline, but rather how to be patient and trust God in church revitalization process.
